Wow, hard to believe that we’re nearing the end of the Hunger Games movie franchise. Lionsgate has released the first trailer for Mockingjay, Part 2, in which Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) is tired of making speeches about taking down President Snow and now wants to actually put her arrows where her mouth is.
“Nothing good is safe while Snow is alive,” she tells President Coin, as we see footage of Finnick and Annie’s wedding. Of the various events in the book, it’s the one most clearly telegraphed in the trailer. Fans hoping for a “real or not real” will have to wait until the next teaser, though there is a tender Katniss/Peeta moment. (Also, a brief shot of Gwendoline Christie as District 13’s Commander Lyme!)
The heavy foreshadowing about how corrupt and rotten Snow is in this trailer is interesting, considering how things shake out once Katniss and her propo team head into the Capitol. We do get a brief hint at the various traps waiting for them—as Finnick (Sam Claflin) grimly jokes, “Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the 76th Hunger Games.”
